Lignin : The Key to a Greener Foundation TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AN ALREADY GREEN PROCESS & TURNING ITS BYPRODUCT INTO A USABLE MATERIAL

What Is Lignin? Is a polymer found extensively in the cell walls of all woody plants and one of the most abundant natural polymers It constitutes one-fourth to one-third of the total dry weight of trees and helps bind the cells together and direct water flow Lignin is nature's cement

Environmental Benefits and Uses Areas plagued with expansive clays can produce better compaction rates and psi ratings Biofuel companies can turn a cost into a much needed revenue Does not produce any harmful reactions in the soil

SIEVE ANALYSIS TESTING Helps to filter out any cobblestones and foreign material Produces a much finer soil specimen for classification

ATTERBURG LIMITS Shows the interaction of a soils physical properties to moisture content CASAGRANDE Apparatus

PROCTOR COMPACTION TEST Determines optimal moisture content at which a soil will achieve its MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY

UNCONFINED COMPRESSION TESTING Gives a definition of the soils bearing capability by applying pressure on a cylindrical sample until it fails

Soil Classification USCS Our soil has is best classified as a Well Graded Silty Clay with Cobbles

Atterburg Limit Results Tests estimate the soil moisture content at which it took 25 drops to close a ½ inch gap was roughly 42%
