PADZIWE ONLINE SECONDARY SCHOOL-POSS How it works

“Learning and teaching are not inherently linked, much learning takes place without teaching, and indeed much teaching takes place without learning”- Jane Bozarth

DIGITAL TEACHING AND LEARNING ECOSYSTEM POSS operates on the internet environment where there is no physical interaction between teachers and learners, the classroom is the internet which beings when students and teachers log in and do their roles. The system for POSS is ideal in computers and is also supported in mobile phones which brings education at the finger tips of students.

USES INDIVIDUAL LEARNING CONCEPT Learners have control of their time, learn at their own convenient time and pace. Teachers present lessons, notes and tasks. Learners have all the control on how to study and do tasks from it. Individual learning is good as it gives leaners freedom towards time and pace of learning management, academic pressure is minimized.

MODE OF LESSON PRESENTATION. POSS is in phase 1 of its existence where lessons are presented in text and still pictures. After January, 2017 new features in lesson presentation will be added. These will include html5 animations, 3 D simulations, audio narrations, pre-recorded video lessons and real time video lessons. Take note, however, that Padziwe Digital Library (PDL), which is part of the online school platform presents lessons through texts, animations, videos, audios, slide shows, etc.

CONTENT DELIVERY Lessons are uploaded each day according to the time table in breakable units of lessons in order of syllabus coverage and subject matrix of the MSCE curriculum which is phasing out next year. Scope of work currently focuses on senior secondary section, Form 3 and Form 4.

ASSESSMENT In POSS, at the end of each lesson there is an accompanied short quiz to test understanding of the lesson which generates instant results. POSS has a parallel online exam facility, Padziwe exams, it is a bank of questions in a range of topics from chosen subjects. It generates instant results easy to be transported anywhere through printing or e-mail

LEARNERS FEEBACK AND QUESTIONS POSS system is designed to have a feedback channel and chance for learners to respond or ask questions in relation to a particular lesson. Teachers or fellow students may respond in a discussion manner which is saved for future references.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE Preparations are underway to re-align our content and delivery to the new secondary school curriculum being slowly rolled out in government schools. POSS will wait for full transition towards the new curriculum.

“You cant teach people everything they need to know “You cant teach people everything they need to know. The best you can do is position them where they can find what they need to know and when they need to know it.”-Seymour Papert. END OF PRESENTATION
