STEAM :Science, Technology Engineering, 2nd Grade AIM Diane Moore, GT Specialist for Chandler Elementary Welcome This is going to be an exciting year! I love teaching AIM and enjoy having the opportunity to teach the same students each year. If you are new to AIM, WELCOME!. You will study Ancient China. The curriculum will challenge students to think critically and creatively. The learner makes connections between his own culture and cultures of others in ancient civilizations.  STEM PBL: “Where’s the Beach?” and “What a Find!” Pamela. Moore@allenisd.org 469-467-1400 ext.5 234 Curriculum Allen ISD has implemented the gifted education curriculum by the College of William and Mary which is project based. This year we will continue to focus on critical thinking skills, problem solving, inductive and deductive reasoning, and logic skills. Our integrated unit of study is Ancient China. We will be studying the Ancient Chinese civilization and culture, the details of their daily life, inventions, systems, monuments, and economy along with the geography of Ancient China. The main goals of the unit are listed below. Each student will have the opportunity to research, contribute to discussions and present various projects throughout the year. Objectives Developing an understanding of the concept of systems and of structure, function, and pattern as key systems elements Developing reasoning skills with application to social studies Developing interpersonal and social group process skills Collaboration, Problem solving skills Class Times Tuesday This year 2nd grade AIM students will meet From 12:30-2:40 Tuesday. AIM class starts the second week of school. STEAM Guidelines STEAM :Science, Technology Engineering, Art and Math Guidelines The engineering design process is the driver for finding solutions in the identified problem. Engaging, inquiry based instructional approaches are used and research is incorporated. Students work in teams to find solutions, and multiple right solutions are possible. The definition of technology is anything created by humans in response to a need or want.
