What are the GRAPES? GRAPES is a tool we will use this year as historians to analyze and understand ancient civilizations. GRAPES = G for Geography, R for Religion, A for Arts & Achievements, P for Politics (government), E for Economics, and S for Social Structure. As we learn about different civilizations this year, we will be able to see how geography, religion, politics, economics, and social structure shape and are shaped by people, places, and times.

GRAPES of Civilization Draw and fill out the table below.   Geography location, physical features, human movement and settlement, human-environmental interaction Religion beliefs, philosophy, scriptures, methods of worships, religious locations (ex. temples), religious figures (ex. priests) Arts & Achievements major accomplishments, new technology, arts, architecture, impact on later civilizations Politics (Government) political ideas, types of governments, government leaders, war and military, laws Economics trade, goods produced, food supply, wealth Social Structure jobs, levels of society, class differences

What are the GRAPES of the Frankfort Kentucky? Using the GRAPES table, we will now analyze the United States of America as a “civilization.”   Geography Religion Arts & Achievements Politics (Government) Economics Social Structure
