Anaerobic Storage System Solution for post harvest losses….

Objective Save Harvest Secure food grains at farm/home Increase farmers income Introduce green & simple technology Store buffer stock Improve quality of life

Post Harvest Storage Problems & Storage Methods Molds, Infestation, Aroma Loss Oxidation, Rodent & Birds Conventional Warehouse Steel Silos Post Harvest Losses 12 to 16 million MT each year Amounts to INR 50,000 Crores per year

Issues of storage for farmers No Scientific Storage facility available Distress sales of produce Loss of produce because of infestation High cost on fumigation Loss on Quantity & Quality High Storage cost of good warehouse

Issues of Storage for Buffer Stock Loss of stock because of infestation Use of harmful chemicals High cost of fumigation Loss on Quantity Loss of Quality (Contamination & Odor) Manpower cost for fumigation

Anaerobic Storage Solution means: “gas-tight or air-tight” Totally isolated from surrounding air ….is a tightly closed storage with modified atmospheric gases and humidity condition different than natural atmosphere gases (20.9% oxygen – O2 ; 79% Nitrogen – N2 ; 0.03% Carbon Dioxide –CO2) and humidity. MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE

Anaerobic Storage Principle If the organism is sealed in gas tight storage, the ecosystem will be modified. Living Organisms respiration causing O2 depletion and gives off CO2. High CO2 level kills living insects and suppresses new development. Low O2 level prevents myco- and aflatoxins development and chemical oxidation. Anaerobic condition is maintained as long as no gas leak from any opening or permeating through the storage material.

Anaerobic Process % O 2 O 2 O 2 O 2

SaveGrain Bags Application SaveGrain Bags Advantages Seeds: Food crop, Horticulture Grains: Rice, Wheat, Corn Pulses: Tur, Massor, Moong Beans: Cocoa, Coffee, Vanilla Nuts: Peanuts, Cashew Dried Herbs: All type of Spices & Herbs Flour: All types of flours Food Stock at disaster areas Toxic & Harmful chemicals not required to control infestation No Quantity Loss Preserves Original moisture content; No Quality Loss Maintain high germination rate Minimum Oxidation Preserves Aroma
