Why do we call it confirmation? This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During your Baptism, your parents and godparents make promises to refuse Satan and believe in God and the Church on your behalf. At Confirmation, you renew those same promises, this time speaking for yourself.

Why be confirmed? During Confirmation, the focus is on the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them courage to practice their faith. Catholics believe that the same Holy Spirit confirms Catholics during the Sacrament of Confirmation and gives them the same gifts. Traditionally, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: Wisdom Understanding Counsel (guidance/advice) Fortitude (courage), Knowledge Piety (religious/reverent) Fear of the Lord

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE CONFIRMATION Ceremony?

What happens at the confirmation ceremony The Sacrament of Confirmation usually takes place during mass. After the gospel has been read the following events take place as part of the sacrament: Candidates are presented Brief homily Renewal of Baptismal promise The laying on of the hands The anointing of chrism General intercession Concluding rites including the sign of peach which conclude the rite and demonstrates communion with the bishop and with all the faithful.
