Creative Writing 1 February 19

BELL, 2/19 Read quietly If you like you may begin working on your book. Aside from BELL time, additional work time will not be granted for this activity. Have the polished copy ready to go on Friday!

NEW AND IMPROVED Reminders: Story time will be Friday. Be prepared to share your picture book by reading it aloud and showing your illustrations! I will bring the cookies --- you bring your own milk!

19 February: Today, you will… CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience by writing a fictional account based upon an artistic representation.

Revise Your Story Chair Activity Open Notability – carefully reread the story. Use the guide provided to revise. Your goal: it must make sense as a cohesive story.

February 19: Let’s Get Artistic Choose a piece of art – any art that intrigues you is fine. It might be music, sculpture, pictures, etc. Use the ‘art’ as your inspiration. Write a fictional story that is based upon, in your part, your choice. Provide a link or a copy to your ‘artistic’ influence. Photo prompts: http://www.pinterest.com/stephjoey/writing-photo-prompts/

One or no literary devices are used in the work. Plot Development All five areas of the plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution) are present and are clearly developed. One of the five areas of the plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution) is not present and/or is not clearly developed. Two or more of the five areas of the plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution) are not present and/or are not clearly developed. Meaningful Dialogue Meaningful dialogue has been used to provide relevant and telling details and interest. Dialogue adds some detail. Dialogue if used seems rote and unimaginative; it provides unnecessary detail and is very basic. Length Story is 2+ pages excluding the title page. Story is overly short.
