What is Right To Play? Right To Play is a non-profit organization that “through playing sports and games, teaches children essential life skills that will help them overcome the effects of poverty, conflict and disease so that they can create better futures and drive lasting social change in their communities and beyond.”

Kirstin Ling Throughout our project we worked closely with Right To Play’s Community Event Manager Kirstin Ling. Right To Play’s Canadian office is located at 65 Queens Street in Toronto. Tel. 1-416-498-1922

Our Mission & Vision Mission: To spread awareness and advocate for Right To Play initiatives around the Algonquin College Campus Vision: To continue to educate others on the importance of play and the benefits that come from participation in recreation.

Raffle and Information Tables Fundraiser Soccer Tournament Raffle and Information Tables

Raffle We put together two baskets that we raffled off in Students Commons. The baskets had over $500 in donations from our sponsors.

Right To Play Table While set up in Student Commons we managed to draw people in by kicking around a soccer ball and playing pass with people walking by. Once people stopped to check out what we had set up we were able to provide them with information on RTP, flyers, and registration forms that they could take with them.

Soccer Tournament Tournament Details: Date and Time : Friday November 27th from 12-5 Location: Algonquin College Thunder Dome Number of teams: 6 Number of players: minimum amount of players 5 & maximum 7, 7v7 play Type of tournament: round robin

Evaluation All in all we believe that we successfully raised awareness and funds for the Right To Play organization. We can take a lot of positives away from the first annual Right To Play Soccer Tournament. Near the exit of the dome, we had set up a quick evaluation for the participants to fill out regarding their experience. We only received positive feedback. Although, there is always room for improvement and adjustments to be made. Overall we are happy with the outcomes of our events.

Funds Raised Raffle: $130 Soccer tournament: $720 Total: $850

Our Experience This was a rewarding experience and we all enjoyed working together and accomplishing our goal of advocating and spreading awareness about Right To Play and the work that they do.
