Ohio Enacted Curric.-Gr. 3 Teachers Intended (3rd Grade Math Indicators)

The SEC has an entire section in the Instructional practices Part of the Survey focusing on Professional Development. In this example, the questions compare time spend on PD in workshops and in-service, summer institutes and conferences, between the Reading First and the Random Group. In this example, the RF group reported spending more time in workshops and conferences than the Random Group. Additionally, Grade 1 RF teachers reported slightly higher numbers than both grade 2 and Grade 3 (Grade 4 is shown on this chart as a default function of the report generator, but the data is not relevant). Teachers in both groups spent about the same amount of time in summer institutes or conferences

Surveys of Enacted Curriculum Standards Assessment Educational standards, accountability, and standard’s based curriculum have emerged in the past decade as the favored approach for achieving a “world-class” education for all students. The survey was developed to provide states, districts, and schools the ability to measure the impact of standards in their locale. The underlying premise is that when standards, assessments, are aligned to classroom practice and content, levels of student achievement rise. Curriculum

Key Question addressed by SEC Tools/Data How can Educators obtain reliable, valid data to determine Alignment of instruction with required standards and assessments?

SEC Data Applications Alignment analysis – degree of consistency of Instruction, Standards, Assessments Instructional improvement in schools Needs assessment/ Evaluation Indicators – monitoring change over time Observation of classrooms, teacher logs are rich sources of data to inform teachers about their collective practice. It is a more expensive and time consuming activity to collect the needed data by these means.
