THE BOOK OF PROVEBS The book of PROVERBS: The book of proverbs has been known as the book of wisdom from the very beginning. Most of the writing of Proverbs has been credited to the pen of Solomon. God has given Solomon the wisdom to rule his people fairly. Proverbs is actually a book of instructions on how to live a good life to God and how to be more peaceful with all of mankind. It is a wonderful book for people of all ages to study how to live moral, peaceful lives. The purpose of the book is for moral instructions on everyday living.

The book of psalms The book of PSALMS The book of Psalms is a collection of 150 lyric poems. It can be best described as a series of poems to praise God. They were written by King David. A few literary forms that you can find in the book of psalms are songs, hymns, praises, poems.

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm

Importance of the TEN COMMANDMENTS in the life of Christians The first 4 commandments talk about the relationship with God. Then the next 6 commandments talk about the relationship between us and other people.

GOD AND MAN The Ten commandments are also known as the “Decalogue” because “Deca” means 10 in Greek. They were received by Moses on Mount Sinai. Moses carved them on two pieces of stone. They can be found in the Book of Exodus For Christians, the observance of the Ten Commandments is based on love and not fear. They should be viewed as life principles to be affected by the human heart. Structures the correct ways of living the Christian life. It calls them back to loving God alone and loving one’s neighbour as themselves. Without these guidelines, a Christian will live a life of sin, alienation, unhappiness and a spirit that is DEAD.

The Beatitudes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--nzw1BCtI4&feature=related Matthew 5: 1-12 & Luke 6: 20-23

The Beatitudes - Matthew . 1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  2. Blessed are they who mourn,  for they shall be comforted.  3. Blessed are the meek,  for they shall inherit the earth.  4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. 5. Blessed are the merciful,  for they shall obtain mercy.  6. Blessed are the pure in heart,  for they shall see God.  7. Blessed are the peacemakers,  for they shall be called sons of God.  8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when men reproach you, and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake”. BLESSED in this context indicates heavenly, spiritual exaltation, rather than earthly happiness or prosperity. (Matthew 5:1-12);

The two gospels in which the Beatitudes are found are : Matthew and Luke The word “BEATITUDE” means BLESSING. The message of Jesus is one of humility, charity and brotherly love, as Christ teaches transformation in the inner person. What did Jesus really mean? Jesus’ sermon on the Mount and the Plain have two different though complementary approaches. In the sermon on the Plain, (Luke’s version), Jesus blesses His listeners for conditions of real poverty, hunger and desolation by promising them future rewards by presenting four consoling Beatitudes. Luke then reports four “woes” that are not found in Matthew’s account.

the importance of the beatitudes TO OUR LIVES TODAY The importance of the teachings of the Beatitudes is that Christians are asked to follow Jesus’ footsteps to the cross and further, to the Risen Christ’s victory over sin and death. For Christians, this involves suffering and an expression of their longing for God, through love and compassion. Hence, the life and teaching of Jesus gives Christian ethics its distinctive character.
