"It seems you were mistakenly listed as a philanderer, not a philanthropist. You're free to go, with our apologies." Philanthropy Philanthropy etymologically means "the love of humanity"—love in the sense of caring for, nourishing, developing, or enhancing; humanity in the sense of "what it is to be human," or "human potential.” Both definitions from wikipedia phi·lan·der- 1. To carry on a sexual affair, especially an extramarital affair, ..2. To engage in many love affairs, especially with a frivolous or casual attitude. http://philanthropy.com/premium/articles/v20/i04/04brown.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philanthropy

Tony Wagner – Harvard Grad School Ed Students are graduating from both high school and college unprepared for the world of work. Less than a quarter of the more than 400 employers recently surveyed for a major study of work readiness report that new employees with four-year college degrees have “excellent” basic knowledge and applied skills. Among those who employ young people right out of high school, nearly 50 percent said that their overall preparation was “deficient.” “they may be learning how to add, subtract, and multiply, but they have no understanding of how to think about numbers. Not knowing how to understand statistics or gauge probability, many students cannot make sense of the graphs and charts they’ll see every day in the newspaper.” Effective communication, curiosity, and critical thinking skills, as we will see, are much more than just the traditional desirable outcomes of a liberal arts education. They are essential competencies and habits of mind for life in the 21st century. Seven Survival Skills—the skills that matter most for work, learning, and citizenship in today’s global knowledge economy. http://www.tonywagner.com/resources/the-global-achievement-gap

Making a logic model helps make sure your dominos are in line. This is you. Making a logic model helps make sure your dominos are in line. This is your program Logic Models Concept

Domino rally video: metaphor for how your programs bring about change: 4:30min to 4:57 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BVr6LaC_HQ

Arrows are the relationships- the knocking down of the dominos. Intro to Logic Models Like a newspaper- wherever you are you can pick up a local newspaper and it may be unique but is intelligible- you know there is an editorial, local, international section, comics, advertisements, sports- you know how to read it. Logic models too may have different designs, but have the same basic parts. What is a Logic Model? a systematic and visual way to share your understanding of the relationships among the resources you have to operate your program, the activities you plan, and the changes or results you hope to achieve. Arrows are the relationships- the knocking down of the dominos. Kellogg Foundation 2004:3 http://www.wkkf.org/knowledge-center/resources/2006/02/WK-Kellogg-Foundation-Logic-Model-Development-Guide.aspx

Logic Models come in many formats and styles (just like the CLASS Scale Components)

Logical Approach Business Plan Summary Brooks p 52-53 P62 literature – USE it to connect the large social problem with your small intervention that addresses a part of it Video: “How Wolves Change Rivers” - or- why you need a literature review to connect the dots between your interventions and long term outcomes that result https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysa5OBhXz-Q In this metaphor, what is the intervention- outcome and steps in between
