Network Resiliency Access points use POE power from the switches. As new construction occurs, it is now standard to add UPS (30 min) to switches powering VoIP or Wi-Fi access points. During the April 2016 power outage we lost ~1/3 of the Wi-Fi access points, 25K wi-fi devices remained connected and had Internet access. The Wi-Fi controllers are a N+1 configuration and have 30 minute UPS or generator (housed with the routers). Please review the network resiliency during your next building construction or renovation. . You may need to request a UPS.
