Administrative Council September 10, 2012 Math Updates Administrative Council September 10, 2012 Good morning! I am happy to share with you some math updates

Thank you … For your outstanding support to students and teachers with the new SOLs. Here are the 2012 SOL results… First of all, thank you for all your support to our students and teachers with preparing for the new more rigorous SOL tests… Here are the 2012 results…

Mathematics SOL Results for 2011-12 Compared to the rest of the districts in the state, our students did quite well Areas of strength were grades 4, 5, 6, and the overall scores for algebra 1, geometry and algebra 2 Areas of challenge which matched the trends of the state were grades 3, 7, and 8. Grade 3 now tests prior standards from K-2 whereas in years past only grade 3 standards were tested. Many of the grade 8 standards pushed down to grade 7. Passing the grade 7 SOL now is an indicator of being prepared to take algebra 1 in 8th grade. Grade 8 is more rigorous thank grade 7 and includes a more diverse range of strands than algebra 1.

The following are preliminary unadjusted spring SOL results and do not include: transfer, LEP, or recovery adjustments  nor scores from the more common alternative assessments (VAAP and VGLA).  Still they should provide a starting point in identifying areas for focused attention in 2012-13
