UCM Online Writing Lab (OWL) Access online assistance from the UCM Writing Center!

Who is the OWL for? The OWL is made for students who: live out of town primarily take online classes We can help with: All types of writing All classes All majors All grade levels All stages of the writing process

How OWL Works Because of time limitations, we can look at 3 pages per assignment. And please do not send more than one assignment at a time. When you send your paper, identify 3 areas of concern. What 3 things would you like the tutor to focus on? Please do not expect Writing Center faculty to correct every error. We will mainly focus on your 3 areas of concern. Allow 72 hours (business days, excluding weekends) for us to receive the paper, read/comment, and send the draft back to you. Our goal is to help students become self-sufficient writers capable of editing their own work. Our online instruction emphasizes teaching and is not a proofreading service.

Formatting Your Paper The Writing Center needs the following information for our records: Your name Your Banner ID (700#) The class the assignment is for (include prefix and number) Your class instructor’s name The campus location (UCM campus, Lee’s Summit, Online) Send your paper as a Microsoft Word attachment, or cut and paste you paper into the email. Include your UCM email address. Explain the assignment so that the online tutor understands the purpose of your paper. List 3 areas of concern. What 3 things would you like the tutor to focus on?

Email your paper and information to writingcenter@ucmo.edu. Ready to Send! Email your paper and information to writingcenter@ucmo.edu. Upon receipt of your paper, we will send a short reply to confirm that we have it. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, this means that we did not receive your paper. Please call (660)-543-4367 to confirm receipt if you do not hear from us or if you have any questions.
