Where People Live in New JErsey
Population NJ is one of the smallest states in the United States, BUT it has one of the largest populations.
Urban Areas Much of NJ is made up of urban areas, or cities. 9 out of 10 New Jerseyans live here.
Suburbs This area surrounds cities, or urban areas.
Rural Areas Very few people of NJ live here, in the countryside. Here, towns are FAR APART. People can live on large pieces of land, way away from the big noisy cities. Most of these areas are made up of forests, farms, or wilderness.
Major Cities NJ’s largest urban area is in the Northeastern corner of the state. There are major cities in there, such as: Newark (largest) Jersey City(2nd largest) Paterson Bayonne
State Capital Trenton is our state’s capital. Located southwest from Newark This city is next to the Delaware River, right near Pennsylvania.
Southeast NJ People travel here to visit the Atlantic Coast, or the Jersey Shore. In Atlantic City, people can go on the beach, walk along the boardwalk, and visit many shops.
Northwest NJ Here, there are many mountains, lakes, and historic villages.
