Presentation transcript:

Bell Ringer Damian thinks he can beat Mr. Haupt in a game of 5 card draw poker. Damian is dealt a full house, so he doesn’t discard any of his cards. Mr. Haupt needs only one card to make a royal flush. What are the odds that the card on top of the deck is the one he needs? Hunter bets Mr. Haupt that he can flip a coin 20 times and get heads every time. If he does it, Mr. Haupt will finally do a legendary, epic dab. What are the chances that Mr. Haupt’s classes will have their faces melted off by one of his awesome dabs?

Probably Probability Mr. Haupt CC.2.1.8.E.1

All Examples Today Yes, you have to write these down. No, there aren’t any notes. No, you do not have to write down this slide. Today you will see some probability problems that look a lot different, but they are not any harder. Sometimes you will be asked to find a “missing probability.”

For Example Tell me if events A and B are independent or dependent. P(A) = 2/5 P(B) = 1/3 P(A and B) = 2/15 P(A) = 3/7 P(B) = 3/5 P(A and B) = 6/35

Something’s Missing Now, I will give you two of the three probabilties. I might give you P(A), P(B), or P(A and B), but only two, you’ll have to figure out the third. I hope you remember how to divide fractions… These are independent events. P(B) = 1/4 P(A and B) = 3/20 P(A) = ??? P(A) = 3/5 P(A and B) = 33/100 P(B) = ???

But I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For… *Bonus if you can name the singer and band associated with the song and picture above.*

Hello, Hello, I’m At A Place Called Vertigo Now we will go back to the word problems we did last week, except instead of just two events, there could be three! Or even four! Maybe, just maybe, there will be more...
