Before: Concussion Testing Concussion Changes 2017-2018 Before: Concussion Testing Concussion Doctor Visit MD,DO, NP, PA RTP Protocol (Days 1-5) Doctor/LAT Clearance Athlete RTP
Concussion Issues last season Athletes must see an MD OR DO, not a PA or NP If these guidelines are not adhered to I WILL NOT LET ATHLETE PLAY. IT IS THE LAW. I recommend Dr. Dharmen Shah MD. He is a great neurologist that is readily available and completes the concussion paperwork correctly. Family doctors normally do not deal with concussions and do not understand the paperwork, so it is filled out incorrectly, which slows the process down. If the paperwork is not filled out correctly, the athlete will not start the 6 day exercise program with me. I am liable by law and can lose my license. Please look up the Gfeller-Waller Law and familiarize yourself with it
Nutrition 3 meals per day essential for energy High carb, low fat meal 3-4 hours before exercise has been proven the best way to maintain energy Drinking sports drinks (Gatorade, Powerade) after exercise in SMALL quantities is beneficial ENERGY DRINKS ARE BAD! The high levels of caffeine actually slows down sugar absorption, which results in dehydration
What if my child gets hurt? Encourage them to talk to me about it Do not immediately take them to the doctor unless serious because I can, most of the time, diagnose what is going on and take care of the situation so that you save money on a copay IF YOUR CHILD IS SEEN BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME I WILL NEED A NOTE SAYING THEY CAN PLAY AFTERWARDS. This is for liability reasons. Please contact the coach or me and let us know of the injury because sometimes we do not know and they can get hurt further if it goes unnoticed I am not perfect. I make mistakes. If I have not contacted you about an injury, PLEASE CONTACT ME! Like I said, I do not always know if your child is hurt
