OUTSIDE VISITATION TEAM OVT

What is an Outside VISITATION Team? An Outside Visitation Team (OVT) is a group of education professionals charged with coaching, mentoring and supporting the system they serve for the duration of the accreditation cycle.

STATE-WIDE INITIATIVE Make a commitment to serve on an OVT Recruit others to serve on an OVT – “potluck approach” Identify candidates for Chair positions Refer to KESA web page (register, sign up for training)

OVT TIMELINE Member training by service centers going on now Chair training by KELI in May-June (delivered regionally) Watch for Chair training info – coming soon Trained individuals listed in Google Sheet on KESA web page Systems can begin assembling teams anytime Submit Chair info (in KESA Initial Report) by September 15

ACCREDITATION REVIEW COUNCIL ARC

Arc definition The Accreditation Review Council (ARC) is a state-level group of education professionals charged with recommending accreditation status and changes in status to the Kansas State Board of Education.

ARC INFO Approx 15 members 3-year terms, limit to two consecutive terms, rolling membership 4-8 days per year commitment Lodging, meals, travel reimbursed according to KSDE policy

ARC DUTIES Vets outside supporters (Example: AdvancED) Receives OVT reports Assigns Areas for Improvement (AFIs) if needed Initiates focus visit(s) in “conditionally accredited” and “not accredited” systems Investigates inquiries involving issues that effect accreditation status Recommends accreditation status and changes in status to Kansas State Board of Education

ARC TIMELINE 2017-2018 meeting dates established (includes training) Wed. September 20 Wed. November 29 Wed. Feb. 21 Wed. April 18 Online application form coming soon

Accreditation statuses Accredited Accredited-Conditional Not Accredited

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT (AFIs) Opportunity to correct before recommendation goes to SBoE Satisfactory correction of AFIs can result in upgraded recommendation Choice to correct or to allow SBoE to vote on current recommendation Choice not to correct can result in Not Accredited

arc RECOMMENDATION Issues with compliance or foundational structures = Not Accredited No AFIs = Accredited. AFIs = Accredited-Conditional or Not Accredited. Opportunity to address, with deadline, before going to SBoE. Choose not to address AFIs = Accredited-Conditional or Not Accredited.
