DAVID’S DECEPTION AND REJECTION

Prologue Memory Verse Main Text 1 Samuel 27:1-12; 29:1-11

Our Focus Today DAVID’S DECISION DAVID’S DECEPTION DAVID’S REJECTION 1 Samuel 27:1-4; Proverbs 3:5 DAVID’S DECEPTION 1 Samuel 27:5-12; Jeremiah 9:4-6 DAVID’S REJECTION 1 Samuel 29:1-11; 4:1; 5-12 Our Focus Today

What does David’s flight to the land of Philistine teach us? We must not forget God’s previous deliverance, in times of trouble (2 Cor. 1:10) Fear is not of God; it displaces faith and opens the door to many other sins (2Timothy 1:7) In times of challenges, we must rather pray than use carnal methods (Romans 8:31; 2 Cor. 10:4,5)

How does the action of the princes apply to Christian youths today? Christian youths must beware of mixed multitude that could pose a threat to their spiritual progress Just as they insisted in saving their king from the likelihood of destruction, Christian youths must make diligent efforts to save other youths from going to hell  Personal evangelism, social media,  print media, etc.

Some of David’s actions not worthy of emulation… Leaning on his own understanding 1 Samuel 27:1 False report and Non-transparency 1 Samuel 27:10 Pretense 1 Samuel 27:11-12

Lessons from the princes of Philistine… They were courageous to approach their king to express their feelings about David They could discern between friends and foes; with this spirit, they saved their nation from foreseeable doom They were very firm in their stand against the king’s position on the issue till he consented to their opinion They refused to be intimidated with the king’s position and authority They expressed their minds without fear.

consequences of deception Some instances and consequences of deception Selah! “1 Sam.27:11” David Rejection “Acts 1:25” Judas Humiliation “Rev.20:10” Devil Destruction, if not repented of

When you are tempted to fear… Proverbs 3:5 Focus on God Pray Be calm

Questions Why did David flee to the land of the Philistines? What was David’s real intention for wanting to stay away from Achish? What are the lessons for saved youths from David’s attitude? What can we learn from the princes of the Philistines’ action against David? What is the danger of deception? Questions
