Vain An empty value Something that is meaningless Toward no real purpose

In one of the Scripture’s great exhortations, a wise man instructs us that everything in a life lived without concern for God or His will is “vain.”

“Vanity of vanities,” says the preacher, “Vanity of vanities “Vanity of vanities,” says the preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” What advantage does man have in all his work which he does under the sun? Eccl 1:2-3

We need to be reminded that even among ourselves today, some very important pursuits can become “vain” if we are not diligent in our service to God. FAITH

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 1 Cor 15:1-2

We need to be reminded that even among ourselves today, some very important pursuits can become “vain” if we are not diligent in our service to God. FAITH WORSHIP

Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” Matt 15:7-9

We need to be reminded that even among ourselves today, some very important pursuits can become “vain” if we are not diligent in our service to God. FAITH WORSHIP APOSTOLIC LABOR

Therefore when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at Athens alone; and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith. For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor should be in vain. 1 Thess 3:1-2, 5

We also need to remember that if we invest ourselves into serving God, it will never be “empty” nor “meaningless.”

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor 15:58

Not only is worshiping God a command, it is not “vain.” It will produce worthwhile results… – it will glorify Him – it will strengthen our faith
