What you really need to know! A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself. A whole number greater than 1 that has more than two factors is a composite number.

What you really need to know! Every composite number can be written as the product of prime numbers in exactly one way. This is called the prime factorization of the number.
