LO: to understand the importance of Stresemann in the recovery of Germany between 1924-1929 Between 1919-1923 the Weimar Government faced many problems yet it survived these many challenges. Many historians have claimed that the period of time between 1924 and 1929 was a much more successful period and is often given the nickname “the Golden Age of Weimar” In the next two lessons you will investigate how accurate this nickname was.

Political importance lead points He was important because he: Content Chancellor August 1923 November= Foreign minister Initial suspicion of democracy Problem of coalitions - 9 in first 4 years Social Democrat Increased support for democracy worked with trade unions Stability (link to eco and foreign policies ) Marginalised extreme parties Nazi 14 seats in Dec 1924 and 12 seats 1928 Political diplomacy lead points He was important because he: 1.Created more support for democracy and the Weimar Government 2. Kept coalition governments together and gave stability which meant that things could get done 3. His success meant that extreme parties suffered.

Why was Stresemann important to the political developments within Germany between 1924-1929? 3. Why was Stresemann important for Germany’s foreign policy between 1924-1929? You have to answer one of these In your response you need to give reasons why Stresemann would be important in whatever the question asks! 8 mark question = spend roughly 12 minutes in exam (today I will give you 15 minutes to work on this)

Peer marking level 2 -mostly a descriptive answer, limited attempt at analysis of the issue and weak explanation (3-4 marks) Level 3 – more detailed and accurate analysis of the issue with clear explanation although not throughout whole answer (5-6 marks) Level 4 –detailed and accurate analysis with a reasoned explanation which is sustained throughout. Addresses the focus of the question clearly. (7-8 marks)
