On August 6, 1961 the Soviet Union launched Vostok-2 into space. The cosmonaut’s name was German Titov. He spent 25 hours in space and made 17 orbits around the Earth. He was 25 years old, the youngest human who travelled into space. SPACE EXPLORATION

On June 16, 1963 the Soviet Union launched Vostok-6 into space. The cosmonaut’s name was Valentina Tereshkova. She spent 3 days in space and made 48 orbits around the Earth. She was 26 years old, the youngest woman who travelled into space. SPACE EXPLORATION

The First American Astronaut February 20, 1962 John Glenn became the 3rd man who orbited the Earth and the 5th person in space. It took him 4h55min to make 3 orbits around the Earth. SPACE EXPLORATION

John Glenn on Discovery Space Shuttle After 36 years John Glenn returned to space on the Space Shuttle on October 29, 1998, becoming, at age 77, the oldest person to go into space. He spent 213 hours in space. SPACE EXPLORATION The Presidential Medal of Freedom, May 29, 2012
