Investigating the Questions Slap Down Organize into groups of 2 – 4. Tear a sheet of paper into 4 rectangles and label them: A-B-C-D. Follow the “Slap Down” game rules. A B C D

WORST answer Easy Practice Round Which of the following responses best represents ingredients of peanuts, chocolate nougat, caramel, and milk chocolate coating? A. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups B. Snickers C. Baby Ruth D. Skittles Round 1: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the WORST answer that can be ruled out quickly. Justify your response. Snickers C. Baby Ruth D. Skittles Round 2: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the BEST WRONG answer (the closest answer to being correct.) Justify your response. Teacher clarifies/verifies. Snickers has all the ingredients, but it does not have CHOCOLATE nougat… it has plain nougat.

Easy Practice Round Which of the following responses best represents ingredients of peanuts, chocolate nougat, caramel, and milk chocolate coating? A. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups B. Snickers C. Baby Ruth D. Skittles Round 3: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the Correct answer. Justify your response. Teacher clarifies/verifies. Baby Ruth is the only answer choice that has all the ingredients.

WORST answer IQ Slap Down! Round 1: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the WORST answer that can be ruled out quickly. Justify your response. Teacher clarifies/verifies. What was the number of points Andrew scored in these two games? A. 18 B. 20 C. 36 D. 90 The team scored 90 points total. Andrew did no score all the points.

IQ Slap Down! BEST WRONG answer Round 2: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the BEST WRONG answer (the closest answer to being correct.) Justify your response. Teacher clarifies/verifies. What was the number of points Andrew scored in these two games? A. 18 B. 20 C. 36 D. 90 A student could mistakenly confuse 2 5 with 20% and choose 18 since it is 20% of 90.

IQ Slap Down! Round 3: At the teacher’s signal, slap down the answer choice that represents the Correct answer. Justify your response. Teacher clarifies/verifies. What was the number of points Andrew scored in these two games? A. 18 B. 20 C. 36 D. 90 Andrew scores 2 5 of the total 90 points. And 2 5 of 90 is 36.

12 days is the correct answer because 16 divided by 1 1 3 is 12. IQ Slap Down! Carmen drinks 1 1 3 cups of juice every day for breakfast. (There are 16 cups in 1 gallon.) What is the maximum number of days a gallon of juice will last? A. 10 days B. 21.25 days C. 12 days D. 16 days There are 16 cups and Carmen drinks a little more than 1 cup a day. A student may choose this answer if they don’t want to work out the math. There is no way that the juice can last 21.25 days because she only has 16 cups and she drinks more than 1 cup a day. 12 days is the correct answer because 16 divided by 1 1 3 is 12.

IQ Slap Down! On what yard line were the Tigers 3 plays ago? In the first quarter of a football game, the Tech Tigers gained 7 yards on every play, moving closer to the Knights' goal line. They are now on their own 25-yard line. On what yard line were the Tigers 3 plays ago? A. 3- yard line B. 4- yard line C. 18- yard line D. 46- yard line The 4-yard line is correct because they have moved up 21 yards in three plays. Which means they had to have started at the 4-yard line. They are on the 25 yard line now. They would have been on the 18 yard line one play ago not 3 plays. Three plays with 7 yards per play is 21 yards. A student could mistakenly add 21 yards to 25 yards and get 46 yards.

A student could multiply 5 times 6 and get 300 feet. IQ Slap Down! A bird traveling toward the ground is changing its altitude by an average of -5 feet per second. At this rate, what is the bird's total change in altitude in 6 seconds? A. -11 feet B. -30 feet C. 11 feet D. 30 feet A student could multiply 5 times 6 and get 300 feet. Since the rate is – 5 feet per second for 6 seconds, the altitude would have changed -30 fee. If the bird is flying towards the ground you would multiply the speed and time not add.
