Student Employee Technology Corps ___________________________________ A New Way to Support the Campus: Technology Help When and Where you Need IT Office of Technology Services Client Services Team January 5, 2017

SETC Background Over a thousand student workers employed in offices throughout campus Staff often rely on student employees as a “first line of defense” for technology questions and problem solving Student workers have a lot to offer, having grown up with technology

The SETC Approach With the right training student employees can contribute to campus technology support as technology first-responders. To do that, OTS will provide: Initial standardized “basic training” on campus technology products, services, and procedures (theory and practical). A designated OTS staff mentor from sign-on through training completion with special access and a hotline for escalation once they are certified as an SETC responder. Ongoing in-service training and annual recurrent training.

Program Summary Accepting a limited number of students in Spring 2017 for a pilot. Host office staff will sign up students, as they see appropriate. Participants will be assigned an OTS staff mentor; host office supervisors will be kept up to date on student progress and completion status. We will need some of your student’s time for the online theory work—and work time for the hands-on training component. OTS will not be paying student employees to participate.
