Persuasive Writing If you are writing to “persuade” someone, you are trying to make them think like you or behave the way you want them to behave.

It`s just like an OREO! … or I-OREOS I – is for issue. Identify the issue. O is for opinion. Second, you say what your opinion is. R is for reasons. Next you say what your reasons are. E is for example or evidence. Your example should show why this is a good reason. Your evidence should support your reasons. O S is for opinion in the SUMMARY. State your opinion again to summarize.

Persuasive Essay Key Words / Transition Words 1. State the issue first. “We waste so much energy using electricity.” or “People need more leisure time to enjoy life.” 2. Opinion: “I think …” “I believe…” “I feel …” “People should …” “We must ...” 3. Reasons: “... because …” “Another reason is …” 4. Examples or Evidence: “For example, …” “In fact, …” “Also, …” “In addition, …” 5. Restate your opinion using different words and a summary of your key reasons.

Persuasive Essay Example Issue: “Everyone should have a hippopotamus as a pet.” Opinion and Reason: “I feel that having a hippo as a pet would make people feel happier.” More Reasons: “Another reason for having a hippopotamus as a pet is to help the environment and stop global warming.” Examples: “For example, it would be fun to have in a swimming pool just to play with. In addition, you could ride the hippo to school every morning. You could also ride it across the Danshue river if you want to go to Ba-li island. This means no gas is burned. Finally, it could eat all the leftovers from meals, so your house will have less trash.” Restate Opinion in Summary: “Everyone having a hippopotamus as a pet would lead to a happier, cleaner world.”

Why People Need More Leisure Time Everyone should have a hippopotamus as a pet. I feel that having a hippo as a pet would make people feel happier. Another reason for having a hippopotamus as a pet is to help the environment and stop global warming. For example, it would be fun to have in a swimming pool just to play with. In addition, you could ride the hippo to school every morning. You could also ride it across the Danshue river if you want to go to Ba-li island. This means no gas is burned. Finally, it could eat all the leftovers from meals, so your house will have less trash. Everyone having a hippopotamus as a pet would lead to a happier, cleaner world.

Persuasive Essay Topics Which is better: books or movies/television? Should everyone have to follow the same rules? Should people have to take tests? Should parents have to take their kids’ tests, too? Should students be allowed to vote on the school uniforms? Which is better: public transportation (MRT, buses, You-Bike) or private transportation (cars, scooters, taxis, personal bicycles)? Why should everyone think that Teacher Brian is so amazingly, wonderfully smart and handsome?
