SharePoint Accessing Your Site Each of us has our own SharePoint page where we can share files, information, and other resources. SharePoint This tutorial will show you how to set up and use that site. Accessing Your Site

SharePoint Start by accessing SharePoint at http://52mpls-sp-190:3000/sites/DLIELC/default.aspx Then access your site my clicking on My Site at the top right of the page

SharePoint If you are accessing your site for the first time you will see a spinning logo and a message telling you it may take some time to create your site. It WILL take some time.

SharePoint Your SharePoint “Site” will look kind of like mine, but with maybe with a few exceptions, which I will explain a section at a time. Feel free to visit my site at http://52mpls-sp-190:3000/personal/1221922359c/default.aspx?PageView=Shared

SharePoint The menu to the left provides you with links to navigate the sections of your site. My Profile Details – This section provides others with your picture and contact information. Links – You can add links to websites and such to this section and you can categorize and share them if you like, or you can keep them private. Colleagues – It’s not completely obvious what this section does at first, but it is very important to the sharing process. You have to add colleagues to your Colleague Tracker if you want to see what they have posted to their SharePoint site. Memberships – DLI has set up a number of information groups to keep us informed. You are automatically subscribed to many of these groups, and this is where you can keep track of that.

SharePoint Documents/Pictures The Documents and Pictures sections are where you upload files to share with colleagues, or to store them for your own use without sharing them. Lists, Discussions, and Surveys These sections are fairly self-explanatory, though there is actually much more that you can do here than meets the eye. If you click on the “Create” button in any of these sections it takes you to a page with the lots of options, like creating a wiki library, forms library, discussion board, or project tracker, just to name a few. Sites The sites section works just like the other sections, but I wanted to highlight the site tool I think most people will be interested in, the Blog. A blog is simply a place where you can share your thoughts with others, keeping in mind that only your work colleagues can see it (sorry, your chances at fame are limited here).

SharePoint The center panel of the site contains the actual content you have created. In my case it includes the most recent blog posts, shared documents, and My Links.

SharePoint The right side panel contains your Colleague Tracker initially, though you can add anything to that column you want by clicking the button and adding A new section. This works for any of the three panels. Once you get things just like you want them you can click on the My Profile tab on the top left to see how everyone else sees your site. Click My Home to go back to the layout screen. Play around with your SharePoint and make it yours. You can’t break it really, so have fun. Feel free to ask any member of the Educational Technology Response Team any further questions you may have about using SharePoint.
