Presentation transcript:

Following a recent public consultation - “What should we prescribe in West Cheshire?” a decision was taken by NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to stop prescribing treatments and medicines for short-term, minor conditions/ailments and gluten-free food. These changes came into effect from 1 October 2016.

Self-care for minor ailments If you currently purchase medicines or treatments for minor ailments on prescription, you can request a letter from your practice notifying you of these changes. Please ask at reception. Patients will be expected to buy the treatments and medicines themselves over-the-counter at a local pharmacy (or supermarket).

Gluten-free diets Gluten-free products are more widely available from supermarkets and are sold to the public at prices that are considerably lower than the NHS is charged when bought for use on prescription. There are also many other alternative sources of carbohydrate that do not contain gluten, for example rice and potato. If you currently purchase gluten-free foods on prescription, you will receive a letter from your practice notifying you of these changes.

Further Information If you would like to discuss this further or you have any concerns please contact the Clinical Commissioning Group’s Patient Experience Team on 0800 132996 or email enquiries.wcheshireccg@nhs.net
