Alberto Giacometti As Presented By Debbie Powers

The Life of AG Alberto was born in Borgonovo which is a Swiss town near the Italian border. He went to the School of Fine Arts in Geneva and then moved to Paris to study with sculptor Antoine Bourdelle. There he played with cubism and became well known as a famous surrealist. Later in life he was given many awards and has a major exhibit at the New York Museum of Modern Art.

His Work and How he Makes it Alberto works mainly with figures and elongating them. He works mainly with men, sometimes alone, and sometimes interacting with each other. His work is abstract and surrealistic. He works with a lot of steal, other metals, plaster, and wood. He shapes the steal and contorts it to still have the steel look with a new feel to it.

“Woman with her Throat Cut”

Top: “Cat” Right: “Woman of Venice (II)”

“Three Men Walking II” “Striding Man”

This one is a little different than his norm, its called “The Palace at 4:00 PM” “Hour of Traces”

His drawings and sketches were done very loosely and figuratively                                                               “The studio” “Seated Man” His drawings and sketches were done very loosely and figuratively

Conclusion I am very intrigued by his work because I like the way he plays with figures. He has a way of making you feel something for these bleak characters right when you look at them. Alberto is an interesting sculptor who went his own way in the 1920s and 1930s with his spin on reality and dreams.
