In order to achieve the standards set out in the curriculum, you are required to complete several tasks (CATs). When completed, these CATs make up a full unit of work and will be theory and prac based. Throughout the unit of work, you will follow the creative process.

Throughout this unit of work you will gain knowledge, and develop your skills in the following: What a sculpture is/What a figurative sculpture is/How sculptures are made Art elements and principles including; shape, form, texture, line, tone, colour (monochromatic/hue), movement Researching and Investigating Sketching/Drawing/Designing Creating and Making (including templates) Analysing and Evaluating Writing essays and annotations Planning and time-management

Brief You are to design and make a figurative sculpture. You must follow the creative process. CONSTRAINTS (MUST do): You may only use 90cm (900mm) of aluminium wire Your final sculpture must be based on the work of either Henry Moore or Alberto Giacometti Your final sculpture must represent a movement, and be based on the human form (figurative) You must paint your final piece using a monochromatic colour scheme CONSIDERATIONS (YOUR choice): Will your final sculpture be based on the sculptures of Henry Moore or Alberto Giacometti? What movement will your final sculpture represent? What colour will your final sculpture be painted?

CAT1 SKILLS Research and Investigation Sketching/Drawing/Shading

CAT 1: Getting to know the basics! For this CAT, you will need to complete the worksheet pictured below. Your finished worksheet must be completed on A3 so ask your teacher for an A3 printout or a piece of A3 paper. For this task you are required to research and investigate what a sculpture is, and what a figurative sculpture is. You will also need to find definitions for the following; shape, form, line, texture, tone, monochromatic and hue. Several drawings will also need to be completed so that you can show your teacher that you understand the theory you have learnt.

CAT 2: Looking at Henry Moore’s sculptures! For this CAT, you will need to complete the worksheet pictured below. Your finished worksheet must be completed on A3 so ask your teacher for an A3 printout. For this task you are required to complete two drawings of Henry Moore’s sculptures (including tonal shading). You will also need to come up with two design ideas for a sculpture inspired by Henry Moore’s work. Use the help sheets on the next two pages to help you. CAT 3: Looking at Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures! For this CAT, you will need to complete the worksheet pictured below. Your finished worksheet must be completed on A3 so ask your teacher for an A3 printout. For this task you are required to complete two drawings of Giacometti’s sculptures. You will also need to come up with two design ideas for a sculpture inspired by Giacometti’s work. Use the wooden mannequins to help you. YOUR SCULPTURE IDEAS MUST REPRESENT TYPES OF MOVEMENT

CAT 4: Final design options for a sculpture! For this CAT, you will need to come up with two design ideas for your final figurative sculpture. You must have one idea in the style of Henry Moore, and one in the style of Giacometti. Both ideas must be drawn on one sheet of A3 paper and must be clearly linked to your previous ideas. Each idea must be annotated and coloured in……. Which artists works is your sculpture based on? What movement does the sculpture represent and why? What materials will it be made from and why? What monochromatic colour scheme will you use? What type of texture will it have? YOUR SCULPTURE IDEAS MUST REPRESENT TYPES OF MOVEMENT

CAT5 SKILLS Research and Investigation Recording a process through sketch-work and annotations

CAT 5: How are sculptures made? For this CAT, you will need to research and investigate the different materials used to make sculptures. You will also need to explore what happens to those materials in order to turn them into sculptures. Because you have been studying Henry Moore and Giacometti, you will also look at one technique both artists used to make some of their sculptures……..LOST-WAX CASTING. You will need to complete the two worksheets pictured below.

CAT6 SKILLS PRAC

CAT 6: Make your figurative sculpture! For this CAT, you will need to make a final sculpture piece based on one of your final design options. You must use the materials your teacher gives you. Make sure you discuss your final design idea with your teacher before you get started. If you are doing a Henry Moore inspired final piece, sometimes it is best to draw and use a template. CAT7 SKILLS Research and Investigation Writing essays in paragraphs

CAT 7: Get to know your preferred artist! For this CAT, you will need to research and investigate the life and works of your preferred artist/sculptor. You will also need to write an essay based on what you find out. To help you, your teacher has created a set of questions (available on COMPASS or as a hand-out).

CAT8 SKILLS Analysing and evaluating your own work and behaviour Forming an opinion and reflecting on things Writing

CAT 8: So…….how do you feel? For this CAT, you will need to write about how you feel when it comes to your finished unit of work. You will also need to think and write about your behaviour, and overall attitude towards learning. Your teacher has created a set of evaluation questions for you to complete (available on COMPASS or as a hand-out). THINK about……….. Have I ever been late to class? Do I always have the equipment I need (including shoes)? Do I use my class time well? What is my behaviour like………am I respectful? Do I make an effort to catch up with my work when I have had time off? Do I complete follow-up learning tasks? Do I always complete work to the best of my ability? Do I make sure the classroom is left in a tidy state?
