Presentation transcript:

Plant Cell vs. Animal Cell Go to WWW.sisd.net Schools Salvador Sanchez MS Faculty Monarrez What I will learn Week of Aug 28 to Sept 1 -download onto computer use slide show for science class. I will update the link with more info to get you more as the week goes along. Pace yourself according to the students needs. You have 3 CT (special ed classes), 2 Pre-AP, and 2 regular . 2nd and 3rd period are small classes , so I take my time in those classes, extra pauses between tasks. This will help pace the rest of your classes according to their stopping point. Know that you will need to have the rest of the periods complete tasks that 2nd and 3rd pd did. So don’t rush 2nd and 3rd period too much, Depending on where they finish continue from there for the next day. The rest of the classes range from 24-28 students. Here I go at what seems as a quicker pace but only Because they are larger classes it takes longer for all students to complete the tasks and also consider re-teaching/re-explaining. Try to finish at the same stopping point 2nd and 3rd period . This will help with the day by day flow of your classes.

Cell Wall Vacuole Chloroplasts Nucleus Mitochondria Cytoplasm Show the students the first slide to remind them of what topic we are still on. They should have this CELL CITY pasted in their notebook. Allow them to copy the answers onto their notebook. Give a 2 min time limit. Remind them to have a DATE, TITLE ,and ADD COLOR Mitochondria Cytoplasm Cell Membrane

DRAW this table… Students already drew this slide and the next slide in their notebooks on Friday. It looks like slide # 5.

Choose one student to start reading one paragraph and have that student choose the next reader. After both, this slide and the next are read, have student take out the cut outs that are taped to the back or front of their notebooks . They had cut these out on Friday as well.

All eukaryotic cells have organelles and each organelle has a unique structure and function. However, not all cells have the same organelles. Use the background information to identify the structure and function of plant cell organelles and animal cell organelles. Have a student read this to the class. Please emphasize Students now use the cut outs and the table they prepared on Friday to decide where the cut outs should be placed. Whether in the STRUCTURE column, the FUNCTION column AND if its for PLANT or ANIMAL. Allow students work in groups . Pass out the copies of the informational text , ONE per GROUP, Give them 20 min to place but not paste yet the cut outs. They can use the informational text to guide them. After time is up, show the answers to them which is on the next 2 slides , but do not allow them to paste yet. Discuss answers, have them store their cutouts in the pouches again for use in the next day. Next day give time in groups again, with informational text , then allow for pasting if they are certain of the placement. After time display answers again and allow for pasting using the slides as a guide.

These are the cut out they prepared on Friday and are in pouches taped to the back or front of their notebooks. 16 yellow

Answers for PLANT cell Ask students to help clarify questions that other students have about why these are the answers. Discuss as a class

Answers for ANIMAL cell Ask students to help clarify questions that other students have about why these are the answers Discuss as a class

What’s the difference? These are the 3 main differences between the PLANT and ANIMAL cell STRUCURE and FUNCTION. Please allow for discussion between students and then as a class go over the main differences. Ask students to help clarify questions that other students have about why these are the answers.

DRAW an animal cell… Next two pages, pages that are side by side, students draw the plant and animal cell . Label all parts for both types of cells. They should use the previous charts they created to guide them on what are the appropriate labels for each. Show the slides with the drawings to guide them.
