What led to the rise of fascism in Europe? Notes #26

Fascism is a form of totalitarianism that glorifies the nation (or the race of the people in the nation) above the individual.

Fascist leaders rose to power in Italy and Germany because they exploited economic hardships in their nations to gain popular support.

Following World War I, a worldwide economic depression occurred (the Great Depression) which severely hurt the economies of Italy and Germany.

Benito Mussolini was a politician who promised to strengthen Italy and its economy,… X

. . . which resulted in Mussolini and the Fascist Party gaining full control of Italy in 1922.

Adolf Hitler was a politician who promised to rebuild Germany and its economy,… X

. . . which resulted in Hitler and the Nazi Party gaining full control of Germany in 1933.

Once in power, both the Fascists in Italy and the Nazis in Germany promoted policies that emphasized national and racial supremacy.
