What about 9th graders’ academics????

Strategies to help students achieve their best Discuss school with your student regularly Let them know that you value education Check Parent Portal regularly (set up automatic emails to yourself) Email the teacher with questions Schedule a parent conference to discuss concerns Seek help early Use Study Island & USA Test Prep

Strategies to help students achieve their best Many teachers provide extra help when requested After school tutoring with busses will begin in October. Sign up will begin in September. Students should complete ALL assignments on time and study regularly. Students should take opportunities to retake tests or quizzes when provided. Stay organized so that completed work is turned in on time. Use a planner (iPad) to keep track of assignments

We want 2016-2017 to be the year that the 9th graders break the trend.

Common Misconceptions and the facts Myth #1: Electives don’t really matter Fact: Electives count towards credits for promotion and affect GPA. Students must complete a pathway to graduate.

Common Misconceptions and the facts Myth #2: I will go to the next grade if I pass most of my classes. Fact: Students need 6 credits to be promoted to 10th grade and failed core classes must be retaken.

Common Misconceptions and the facts Myth #3: Attendance is not a big deal. Fact: Students who have excessive absences do not perform as well as students with fewer absences

Special programs Skinnies—9th Honor’s Literature & Accelerated Algebra I /Geometry A Study skills math and/or reading LCCA
