Tasks for “THE RAVEN” – Day One (Whatever you DO NOT complete is assigned for homework!) Listen to the poem once through without stopping. When finished, jot down three questions about the poem on the bottom of p. 134. 2. Examine the poem Using your notes, use one color to highlight all of the gothic traits and setting aspects within “The Raven”. Also, LABEL them in the margins of your workbook. Evaluate the poem: Is its purpose to evoke HORROR or TERROR in the reader? Review your notes and record your answer on p. 134 in your workbook. List a few of the items & explain why. 3. Re-read your assigned stanzas & complete the following items in your workbook & Label them correctly in order to get points! a. In the margin, write an interpretation of the poem & in which you answer the following questions: How does the sinister isolated setting contribute to the tone/mood? How would you describe the speaker’s mental state? What does the raven symbolize? …& the word “Nevermore”? (b.)
