Self Care for Professionals Because You’re Worth IT!!

Self Care-Definition In health care, self care is any necessary human regulatory function which is under individual control, deliberate and self-initiated. Some place self care on a continuum with health care providers at the opposite end to self care. In modern medicine, preventive medicine aligns most closely with self care.

Hmmmm…..

Put on your OWN Oxygen Mask First Mother Theresa took 4 hours each morning to “connect” before she stepped foot into the day. Pope John Paul took 3 ½ hours each morning of quiet time. Did society say of them…those Lazy people…always thinking about themselves first! Helping ourselves FIRST assures we are more able to provide service and assistance to those in our family, our workplace and our community.

What are you “feeding” yourself? Take a moment to Breathe right now. Ask yourself a couple of quick questions. How do I awaken in the morning? What food do I eat throughout the day? Where do I eat that food? How do I feel when I do/don’t get everything checked off my daily list? How do I reward myself after a long day at work? How do I go to sleep at night?

Meditation as a Daily PRACTICE Appetizer MEDITATION Meditation as a Daily PRACTICE If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything: it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind there are few. ---Shunryu Suzuki---Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind

Jon Kabat-Zin 7 Major Pillars of Mindfulness Practice –Jon Kabat-Zin *non-judging *patience *beginners mind *trust *non-striving *acceptance *letting go

Mindfulness as a Practice Hourly Breathing---set an alarm Check in with self—Where Am I? Notice your mind as if you were an observer— without judgment!! Find one activity in your daily routine to practice being mindful. Baby steps…we learn to crawl before we learn to walk
