The Religion of Jeroboam 1 Kings 12:25-33

1. Its Source - Human Wisdom “in the month which he had devised in his own heart” (1 Kings 12:31-33). Is. 55:8-9; Jer. 10:23 Matt. 7:21-23

2. Its Motive - To Keep Followers “Now the kingdom may return to the house of David” (1 Kings 12:26-27). False teachers are motivated to draw away disciples after themselves (Acts 20:28-30).

3. Its Appeal - Convenience “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem” (1 Kings 12:28). Some churches have gone into the “catering business” (2 Tim. 4:1-4).

4. Its Appearance - Similar To Truth Jeroboam’s feast was “like the feast that was in Judah” (1 Kings 12:32). 2 Cor. 11:12-15 Heb. 8:5

5. Its Effect - Progressive Degeneration 2 Kings 17:9-18 “evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse” (2 Tim. 3:13). God’s commands are “for our good always” (Deut. 6:24).

6. Its Result - Destruction “Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone” (2 Kings 17:18). Matt. 7:21-23; 15:13
