Keep Workload Scheduler up to date
Keep TWS up to date: what does it mean? In large environments, the maintenance of complex deployments tends to have a high TCO due to: Prerequisites and guidelines depend on the platform of the product components Heterogeneous versioning of the product components Delivering product images to the deployment network Deny of service due to maintenance activities Mainframe controller Distributed master Distributed Domain Managers, agents, pool of agents
IBM Endpoint Management fixlets
Solution IBM Endpoint Management and Workload Scheduler integration The IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) integration with Endpoint Manager (IEM) helps reducing the IWS Deployment TCO while keeping the IWS environment up-to-date Unified, real-time visibility and enforcement to deploy and manage upgrades to all endpoints from a single IEM console
Capability IBM Endpoint Management and Workload Scheduler integration Analyses: Analyze IWS information about all the agents installed on IBM Endpoint Manager endpoints Fixlets/Baselines: Automatically find all the IWS agents where to install upgrades or fixpacks. When the Fixlets/Baselines become relevant, you can choose to schedule or run immediately an IWS upgrade/fixpack installation.
Capability It provides info on: IEM Analysis is: collection of property expressions that allow an Operator to view and summarize various properties of IEM Client computers across a network It provides info on: Where the instance is installed The user owner of the instance The version and fix pack level It can be applied to a filter/list of all IEM/IWS computers
Capability IEM Fixlet/Baseline is: Using “Relevance” statements, Fixlets and Baselines finds “relevant” computers affected by a “vulnerability”. Actions are associated with Fixlets/Baseline to remediate the vulnerability. The following fixlets are provided for each operating system to upgrade agents to V9.3 Prepare the upgrade of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler (FTA, Dynamic, zCentric) to version 9.3 for platform Upgrade Tivoli Workload Scheduler type_of_agent agent to version 9.3 for platform
Capability IEM is distributed with IWS V9.3 Upgrading IWS agents Patching IWS agents Dual fixlet approach Prepare fixlet Download sources Safe mode upgrade / patch ! Upgrade / Patch fixlet Upgrade (twsinst –update) Link back to domain manager IEM is distributed with IWS V9.3
Centralized Agent Update
Upgrade your agents today Patching or upgrading your agents today. Workload Scheduler Administators connect to the IBM download site and download the fixpack or upgrade installation package and install the package on each agent agent workstation, one by one or with different tools. IBM
Upgrade from a single point of control Self-patching or self-upgrading multiple agent from a single point of control. Automatically patch or upgrade multiple fault-tolerant or dynamic agents using Dynamic Workload Console to perform a bulk install on all selected and applicable agents. Download installation package: Download the fixpack from IBM Fix Central or the Upgrade installation package from Passport Advantage to your master domain manager. Submit an upgrade action: Select the agents to patch or upgrade and Send the installation package to them using Dynamic Workload Console Automatic agent install: A self-updating script runs automatically on the agent workstation patching the agent to the fixpack level or upgrading the agents to the new Version. How does Centralized Agent Update work New agent image ZIP files must be copied in the Engine folder <TWAHome>/TWS/deploy/agent Each zip contains the standard TWS folder and a .self folder containing the selfupdate script needed to run the update Selfupdate script runs the following steps: stop the agent backup TWS directory in temp folder launch twsinst command that will upgrade the agent in case of failure, it restores the TWS dir restart the agent The Centralized Agent Update can be scheduled using the specific job plug-in Event management can be used to monitor Centralized Agent Update events IBM
