Presentation transcript:

common core UDL RTI ELL PARCC smarter balanced dyslexia autism Read&Write is the award-winning literacy support solution that has useful tools for the whole school. Although it provides immense support for english language learners and students with learning disabilities, Read&Write can be beneficial for all students - and teachers too! This presentation will outline some of the key features within Read&Write that all students (and staff) can benefit from on a daily basis. Let’s first take a look at the benefits Read&Write brings to students of all levels.

reading writing researching studying Read&Write is a simple, non-intrusive toolbar at the top of the screen that students can customize to meet their specific needs. They simply pick and choose the buttons that will help them most in reading, writing, researching, and studying.

useful reading & writing features: Text to Speech Dictionary Prediction Here are just a few Read&Write features that can help all students improve their reading and writing skills: Read&Write’s Text-to-Speech function can be used by students at all levels to help with their pronunciation and recognition of words, as well as with proofreading their work before submitting it to the teacher. The Dictionary function in Read&Write improves reading comprehension at all learning levels. Read&Write’s Prediction tool can guide students that are faced with writer’s block or need help coming up with the right word to use in their sentence. Note: Some tools may not be available on all platforms or the imagery/naming may vary slightly.

useful researching features: Web Search/ Fact Finder Study Skills - Collect Highlights Here are some great Read&Write tools that all students can use to conduct research for a paper or presentation: The Web Search (also known as Fact Finder) feature in Read&Write makes finding information on the Internet easier and faster for everyone. The Highlight Collection function in the Study Skills feature can be used to collect and collate information from web pages and documents to create one, comprehensive research document. It also includes a bibliography creator, which uses the Harvard referencing format. Note: Some tools may not be available on all platforms or the imagery/naming may vary slightly.

useful studying features: Study Skills - Highlights Vocabulary List Audio Maker/ Speech Maker There are also several Read&Write tools that students can use to review and study for tests and exams: Students can use the Highlights function in the Study Skills feature to highlight key information that they want to review or remember. They can even use different colors to organize that key information for further comprehension. Read&Write’s Vocabulary List is a great tool for students that want all of their vocab words and definitions in one place, broken out by subject or bundled all together for end-of-year exams. For those students that comprehend and remember content better after hearing it rather than reading it, the Audio Maker (also known as Speech Maker) feature in Read&Write is the perfect tool. It converts any text into an MP3 file. Note: Some tools may not be available on all platforms or the imagery/naming may vary slightly.

As mentioned at the beginning of this presentation, Read&Write isn’t just for students. It can support teachers as well! Read&Write has several tools that teachers can use in and out of the classroom to increase efficiency, promote participation from all students, track their students’ progress, and raise the literacy standards.

useful features for teachers: Screenshot Reader Scanning Picture Dictionary Many of the tools already mentioned in this presentation could be beneficial for teachers as well (i.e. the Vocabulary List for lesson plans or Text-to-Speech for proofreading). However, we’d like to share a few more Read&Write tools with you that are ideal for teachers: Teachers can use the Screenshot Reader in Read&Write to read and capture text in locked file formats such as PDFs and Powerpoint Presentations, which can then be compiled to quickly and easily create classroom resources. Similarly, the Scanner feature in Read&Write allows teachers to convert inaccessible resources, such as hard copy worksheets and books, into accessible and editable formats. The Picture Dictionary in Read&Write is a great tool to include students of all learning abilities in the classroom conversation. Not only does the Picture Dictionary help those students who are learning English as a second language or who have a learning disability, but it can also make classroom exercises more engaging and fun for all. Note: Some tools may not be available on all platforms or the imagery/naming may vary slightly.

Believe it or not, there are lots of other features within Read&Write that both students and teachers can take advantage of!
