Online Storage Migration function (1) Fujitsu Training Documentation Online Storage Migration function (1) Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF This function is released with firmware V10L60 and later No additional license is necessary It reduces downtime for data migration in case of migrating an old ETERNUS Storage to a new ETERNUS Storage system Data will be migrated on a per volume basis Source volume and destination volume must have the same capacity Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017 Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Online Storage Migration function (2) Data will be migrated on a per volume basis That means that the source DX and the destination DX S3 / AF can use different HDDs and RAID configurations Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Online Storage Migration function (3) Fujitsu Training Documentation Online Storage Migration function (3) Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Storage Migration function supports Data volume migration of Standard Volumes, WSV, TPV, FTV VVOL is not support Storage Migration without using a migration host No additional software is required because Storage Migration is controlled by the Controller Modules of the ETERNUS DX / AF The migration source storage system and migration destination storage system are connected via FC only Minimum 2 paths are recommended for redundancy Up to maximum 8 paths are supported In case that all available migration paths fail, host I/Os are terminated with an error and can be resumed after the problem is solved Both Storage Migration Methods, online and offline, are supported But both methods can not run at the same time No need to change the configuration of the source storage system Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017 Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Workflow of Online Storage Migration Fujitsu Training Documentation Workflow of Online Storage Migration Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Application Server 4 5 1 DX S2 Destination ETERNUS DX S4 Source ETERNUS Business data 6 FC 3 Business data 2 Steps of Online Storage Migration 1 Install the new ETERNUS DX system e.g. S4 2 Create Destination Volumes 3 Connect multi path FC Migration Path between both ETERNUS system 4 Unmapp business volumes between application server and source ETERNUS 5 Mapp new volumes between application server and source ETERNUS 6 Start storage migration 7 Storage migration is completed 8 Diconnect FC Migration Path The data will be written to the Destination ETERNUS in synchronous mode. That means the the Destination and the Source ETERNUS are updated. In case that all multipaths have faiiled, the application server I/Os are terminated with an error message. If only one migration path failed, a transparent, automatic switch over to the backup path will be initiated. After solving the first path error, a transparent, automatic switch back to the first path will be initiated. CA-Modes for Online Storage Migration The Server must be connected to the destination DX S3 / AF system CA SAN-Ports must be set to CA Mode Both ETERNUS DX systems must be connected via FC topology CA- Ports of the Destination ETERNUS must be set to Initiator Mode on both side CA-Ports of the Source ETERNUS must be set to CA Mode Temporarily unmap and remap server Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Storage Migration Setting File (1) The online Migration is controlled by a text file that has to be set up in advance and must be uploaded via ETERNUS DX GUI Defines the CA ports and the usable WWPNs Defines the volumes that has to be migrated A template file can be down loaded via ETERNUS GUI and then adapted Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Parameter of Storage Migration File (1) Fujitsu Training Documentation Parameter of Storage Migration File (1) Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF The following Parameter a fixed and will not be changed "Eternus-storage-migration-0101" Code to identify the path file format "Type=Open" Storage Migration type. Only "Open" possible at the moment "OPEMODE=M&IO" Storage Migration operation mode for Online Migration always "M&IO" # Open Storage Migration Eternus-storage-migration-0101 Type=Open GROUP=0x0 OPEMODE=M&IO { PATH=CE0,CM0,CA3,P0,WWPN-source-port-1 :: :: :: :: PATH=CE0,CM1,CA3,P1,WWPN-source-port-n VOL=0,85 :: :: :: VOL=3,88 } Eternus-storage-migration-0101 == Code to identify the path file format (fixed) Type=Open == Storage Migration type (fixed to "Open") Group=0x0 == Group identifier for the path group. Specify from 0x0 to 0xF. The group identifier for the path group associates a migration volume to a migration FC port. Setting multiple FC ports in a path group creates a multipath group. If a path group is blocked, a path failover is performed to another FC port in the path group. A migration source FC port must be paired with a migration destination FC port (in the Initiator mode). In addition, an FC port that is already set in one path group cannot be set in another OPEMODE=M&IO == Storage Migration operation mode (fixed to "M&IO" for the online method) PATH=CE0, CM0, CA3, P0, WWPN == Associates the FC-Initiator mode port in the migration destination and the WWPN of the migration source. This example shows that the destination storage port ("CE#0 CM#0 CA#3 Port#0") is connected to the WWPN of the source storage system ("2041000B5D6A0BA0"). Vol=0,85 == Associates the logical drives numbers in the migration source and the migration destination. This example shows that the source storage system's logical drive number "0" is associated with the destination storage system's logical drive number "85". [EOF] == (End of File) indicates the end of the path setting file Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017 Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017

Write Processing of Online Storage Migration Fujitsu Training Documentation Write Processing of Online Storage Migration Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF In case the Server writes data to the already migrated area of the destination volume, it will be replicated to the source volume as well In case the Server writes data to the not migrated area of the destination volume, it will be directly forwarded to the source volume This guarantees, that the data is always consistent also on source side During the online storage migration Also in case that the Online Migration fails in the middle of the task Online Migration Path FC Application Server Mapping Path SAN Destination ETERNUS Source ETERNUS Data Migration Migrated Area Migrated Area Write Write Write Not Migrated Area Write Online Storage Migration ETERNUS DX S3, S4 and AF Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017 Copyright Fujitsu, Release June 2017
