The Power of a Legacy But what is this “faith”? “The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice” (Gen 18v17-19) What is Abraham’s Legacy in Scripture? Rom 4v3, 12, 16 But what is this “faith”?

Eye of Faith “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad”. (John 8v56) “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor 4v18) “We walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Cor 5v7)

Faith Abrahamic faith is to… See the unseen! Believe God can do what He says Past, present and future Know nothing is impossible with God See beyond the natural/now to spiritual/future Trust God’s word above your eyes See like God!

Developing Faithful Sight Gen 12v1 12v7 13v10 13v14-18 18v1-2 18v17-19 21v9-10 21v11-12 Gen 22v1-4 “Nevertheless what saith the scripture? ‘Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman’.” (Gal 4v30)

But how can Isaac be the promised SEED if he was to be sacrificed? Vision Test “Abraham rose early in the morning” Only other occ = Gen 21v14 CR Gen 21v11-12 Test – to see as God sees! But how can Isaac be the promised SEED if he was to be sacrificed?

Thine Only… Abraham’s test has greater significance… God Christ Hebrews 11v17-18 “Only begotten son…” = John 3v16, 18 Abraham God Isaac Christ v6 = “his son” v7 = “my father”… “my son” v8 = “my son” v9 & v10 = “his son” v16 = “not withheld thy son…thine only”

Rejoiced to see MY day… Details show God’s grand plan… “Whom you love” “This is my beloved son” (Matt 3v17) “Land of Moriah” Jerusalem (2 Chron 3v1) David bought Goliath’s head here Solomon “began to build the house of God” “Upon one of the mountains” “And when he was come to THE place” (Matt 27v33, Mark 15v22, Luke 23v33, John 19v17)

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am” (John 8v54-46)

That Seed is Christ Christ was “the seed” (Gal 3v16) John 11v4

After These Things… But how does Genesis 22 end? Introduction of Rebekah… the Bride of Christ! “That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations"—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which be not as though they were” (Rom 4v16-17 ESV)
