NaCl Name: Sodium Chloride Formula: NaCl Electronic Diagram:
Physical Properties Melting point: 801°C Boiling point: 1413°C Physical state at room temperature: solid Colour: White Density: 2.165 g cm−3 Solubility in water: dissolve Electrical conductivity: not good (non metal)
Chemical properties Nacl is formed by the reaction of the hydroxide with hydrochloric acid. reactive towards water Acidic: 6.7-7.3 Basicity: 6.7-7.3 is currently mass-produced by evaporation of seawater or brine from other sources
Uses: In cooking use as preservative ---- to inhibit the growth of bacteria used as a cheap and safe desiccant because of its hygroscopic properties draws water out of bacteria through osmotic pressure
Special characteristic Salt is added to stabilize the soil and to provide firmness to the foundation on which highways are built. The salt acts to minimize the effects of shifting caused in the subsurface by changes in humidity and traffic load.
