The Mission of AVID is to Close the Achievement Gap by Preparing All Students for College Readiness and Success in a Global Society. AVID is a college readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in four-year colleges and universities. AVID supports students who: Express a desire to go to college Exhibit a willingness to work hard Are first generation college attendees Are underrepresented students AVID focuses on acceleration rather than remediation by placing students on the college track by way of enrolling students in honors and AP courses.

The AVID College Readiness System Provides a Multi- Layered School Support System to Ensure Student Achievement. Teaches academic skills and behaviors not targeted in other classes Provides intensive support with in-class tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships Accelerates underachieving students into more rigorous courses Creates a positive peer group for students Establishes a school-wide structure focusing on college readiness and college success

Essential Components include an AVID Elective Course and School Support Team WICOR strategies Active Site Team Composed of 9 members Monthly round table meetings AVID Elective Class Cornell Focused Note-Taking Weekly Tutorial Sessions/College tutors AVID Binder
