Oswego East What is AVID? College Preparatory System Support System for First-Generation College Students AVID pushes students with academic potential and boosts their self-confidence, determination and work ethic AVID creates a family atmosphere

Oswego East What is AVID? Among AVID Graduates Nationwide: 95% are enrolled in a college or university 71% are attending a four-year university 75% of the grads are working either full or part-time to send themselves through college

What would I be signing up for? Oswego East What AVID is not What would I be signing up for? An “at-risk” or Remedial Program A Blow-Off Course A Study Hall For all Students Taking rigorous course load Taking Cornell notes in all of your classes Maintaining an organized binder Participation in tutorials

Qualities of the AVID Student: Oswego East Qualities of the AVID Student: Academically “in the middle” Average to high test scores Demonstrates desire and determination in class College potential Attends school regularly Can thrive in an Honors/A.P. environment with the right set of academic opportunities No major behavioral issues Remember, it is an honor to be selected into this program.  AVID students have mounds of intelligence and lots of potential to thrive academically.  Typically, they are the hardest workers in their classes and accept the challenge of more difficult courses.

Oswego East Selection Process In order to be considered for AVID a student must: Complete an application Come to your scheduled interview in February / Early March. (Interviews will take place at your school, and parents may not attend) The AVID Site Team will select the students they believe are the best fit for the AVID program. Students will be notified of the Site Team’s decision via email.
