We acknowledge StFX is situated on the un-ceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people.

How do you feel after your morning class?

The People Jennifer Farrell Shafik Nanji Bernadette MacGillivray The Instructional Team

Who makes up our program? Regions Cohorts/Non-cohorts Leadership/Curriculum Canadian and International experience Teaching in Aboriginal, Métis, and Inuit communities

What is the program about? Developing future leaders to improve education; Preparing leaders for educational change; Engaging in critical reflection; Challenging assumptions, introducing new thinking; and Cultivating educating inquirers and researchers

What does my next year look like (curriculum)? 527 Principles of Learning 532 Curriculum Theory 536 Program Development We strongly suggest 1 course per term!!!!

What does my next year look like (administration)? 561 Leadership and Administrative Theory 533 Dynamics of Change 573 Professional Development and Supervision We strongly suggest 1 course per term!!!!

Register EARLY! JULY 19, 2017

What path should I pursue? You don’t have to declare yet. Our suggestion is to see how excited you get about the idea of doing more focused research after 505. Then, complete your core courses. By late next spring you’ll probably know how you feel after taking several courses. By next summer you’ll want to decide which second research course to take. If you do a project or thesis you’ll take 506/507. If you pursue the course-based route you’ll take 508.

Information Sessions July 20: 10-11 (Schwartz 215)

Some Advice Keep your StFX email up to date and check regularly Enroll early so we don’t have to cancel courses Go slow and digest what you are learning…give yourself permission to be ‘fully here’ for this program

NOVA SCOTIA TEACHERS YOU HAVE TO CONTACT THE OFFICE OF TEACHER CERTIFICATION TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE UPGRADE. THAT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY PRIOR TO TAKING THE DEGREE.

Graduate Student Handbook For additional information, go to Continuing and Distance Education, and click on Master of Education. http://sites.stfx.ca/continuingeducation/master/a pplication_forms

Library Services (Suzanne van den Hoogen) MEd students have access to services in the same way as other students, and the Library has created a portal on their website for distance students to access information on services available to them:  http://sites.stfx.ca/library/distance_education

Collaborate Tutorial Do the tutorial WELL in advance of your first online class!!!!

A Word About Grades Don’t let them get in the way of your learning as an adult learner in a graduate program. At StFX we expect a range between 78-84, which we consider VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT. Try not compare numbers across institutions.
