Volume 84, Issue 4, Pages 327-330 (April 2015) Midfacial rejuvenation by hyaluronic acid fillers and subcutaneous adipose tissue – A new concept  Uwe Wollina  Medical Hypotheses  Volume 84, Issue 4, Pages 327-330 (April 2015) DOI: 10.1016/j.mehy.2015.01.023 Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd Terms and Conditions

Fig. 1 Our concept of soft tissue filler action. Filler do no only stimulate procollagen production but induce a stress response in adipose tissue due to the water-binding capacity of hyaluronic acid. In addition, an activation of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells and their expansion in the scaffold provided by hyaluronic acid fillers is supposed.
