Why do you love me so much? Autumn 1 Here are some of the things Nursery will be learning about & ways in which you can help them in Autumn Term 1. If you would like any more advice or tips on how to help your child, please contact the class teacher. Maths Introduce children to Numicon shapes by playing lots of matching games. Counting out loud and objects. Introduce daily routines. Language of measure – height. Personal, Social & Emotional Getting to know each other and working together to learn the routines and rules. Talking about what makes a good friend and about our lives and families. Outdoor area Moving round an obstacle course to practise moving in different ways. Playing ball games. Big water play Washing babies. Writing area Lots of opportunities to make marks and practise writing letters and numbers with a friendship theme. Name cards available. Investigation Area Comparing being a baby to what we can do now. Thinking about feelings and what makes us feel happy and sad. Look in mirrors and describe how we look today. Why do you love me so much? Autumn 1 Reading area Access to a comfortable reading corner with familiar books & a picture of the children’s families with their names on display. Malleable area Different objects to explore the sense of touch and to sort. Make families with playdough. Creative Self-portraits Pictures of friends Decorating hearts using scissors Playing music and singing and dancing Small world & construction Different communities with people of various backgrounds, jobs etc. Children free to add backgrounds. Photos of the chn on blocks. Focus – identifying baselines Getting to know each other and the parents. Parents to describe why they love their child. Role play area Home corner with photographs of the children with their families. Party props for celebrations. A baby clinic. Sand and water area Damp sand for imprinting hands and fingers. Bubble bath in the water and dolls for washing babies.

Welcome to Reception This is George the class pet: 50p Fund We would like to continue to ask for a voluntary contribution of 50p a week. This money will go towards a healthy snack in addition to the fruit, baking sessions and small treats the class earn. There is be a box on the window sill in the classroom to collect any contributions. Helping your child to read and write Miss May will be holding a workshop to show how we teach sounds, words and handwriting on Wednesday 25th September at 3:30 in Reception. Please attend as it will be helpful for you and your child. Attendance School starts at 8:45 and finishes at 3:25. Please ensure that your child is at school on time as learning begins straight away. All holidays during term time will be unauthorised and a fixed penalty will be issued and send the children in unless they are really poorly. Clothing The weather is very unpredictable at this time of year so please make sure that your child brings a warm, waterproof coat in every day as we will be accessing outside in all, apart from the most extreme, weathers. P.E. P.E. is on a Monday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child has a P.E. kit in school. No jewellery is permitted. Also please label all your child’s clothes with their name. Any other concerns or problems, please see any of the adults in the classroom who are more than happy to help.
