Community Service Requirement As part of the Sophomore graduation requirements (Class of 2017), sophomores must perform a minimum total of 30 hours of Community Service. The community service activity form and instructions are available on the THS website.

Community Service is: Volunteering for a Non-Profit: Humane Society, Library, Boys and Girls Club, AYSO, Kid Zone, Historical Society, American Red Cross and others. Participating in community activities or events: Local PTO events at elementary schools, Project MANA Food Drive, Toys for Tots, Scouting Service Projects and others. Volunteering for THS jobs/events that are not part of your club duties. Remember…if it helps the community it is community service. Community Service IS NOT!!! Working for your parents or at a place of business even if you are not paid. Helping out relatives or helping an elderly neighbor with his/her yard work, tutoring your neighbor or babysitting a friend’s child. (you do this because you are part of a family). Donating food or money. Working at your church performing your typical church responsibilities.

Naviance: Family Connection This is your “go-to” place for researching colleges and managing your college list. Personality test and career information Scholarship postings Sophomores should now have access to the “College Tab” http://connection.naviance.com/tahoeth or: Naviance.com I need to register

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test PSAT: Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test Practice test for the SAT 3 hour exam that measures aptitude in Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. National Merit Scholarship Program uses it to determine if a student is eligible to receive a scholarship Colleges use the scores as a recruitment tool. Colleges receive your child’s scores and can start sending information. Should also take as a Junior in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship- Which is scoring in the top 1% of the nation and receiving a $5000.00 scholarship for college ($15, or fee waiver)
