Does this remind  you of anything? No wonder we were scared to go to the dentist! Look at that scary gear thing under glass!

You wouldn't want to go to the same dentist, using the same tools for the past 20 years, would you? Or even how about using the same toothpaste  you used 20 years ago...?     Toothpaste has improved to take care of teeth and gums now!

What does this remind you of? Would you be scared as a child? Click to add subtitle

How much has to change to make meaningful change?

What has happened in our classrooms since that photo was snapped? Who remembers this?

A blog post at TechLearning.com/blog Look at things differently. A blog post at TechLearning.com/blog

How about changing the way to send someone a message?

Would you consider using email in  your classroom a transformational activity? What could you do to change? What if the students emailed....

If you video-conferenced  someone, somewhere, would that be considered transformational?? What can you change?

What has happened in 3 years in Michigan? How It's Working Early results from a third-party evaluation conducted by the Center for Research in Educational Policy at the University of Memphis are encouraging.

61 percent of students reported being more interested in learning, direct observation and surveys,  significant increase in cooperative and experiential learning and computer activities involving critical thinking, plus more student discussion than national norms.  61 percent of students reported being more interested in learning,  54 percent felt they learned more,  51 percent believed their increased efforts would lead to getting better jobs in the future. http://www.schoolcio.com/showArticle.php?articleID=193500474

What have we learned in Maine? Some of the research from Professor David Silvernail from  University of Southern Maine.

of Education and Ferris State University in Big Rapids.  FTL's one-to-one program : transforming the classroom, highly charged, student-centered learning atmosphere where teachers create a media-rich environment. emphasis on inquiry and project-based learning, students are also working more collaboratively, moving around, and depending more on one another than the teacher.  permission to interact with the technology and each other in whatever way they need to learn,"  It's a much more constructivist environment just by virtue of the fact that these kids are working in their native world." The Freedom to Learn program is a statewide initiative coordinated by the Michigan Department  of Education and Ferris State University in Big Rapids. http://www.schoolcio.com/showArticle.php?articleID=193500474

Can you think of the types of changes and activities our students are involved in? Facebook, Myspace,..... keep going!

How powerful is this message? What would you add? http://tinyurl.com/5en5jk

Where are our students now?

My own movie. It took only 15 min. from start to finish, published! Oh, and when the animoto was finished, I uploaded to YouTube and in minutes I was done.

What can we build in a few minutes?

Where do we start? Located some examples of teachers who have changed their classrooms. Andrew Churches

Classroom Instruction that works by Stephanie Sandifer   The website about Classroom Instruction that Works is based on the  "Marzano's 9" , researched strategies of learning which improve student learning and achievement. Sherry Miller has a great updated site about Marzano Contributor: Craig Hicks The use of wikis to be a collaborative note taking tool has great potential. Here are a few examples of student generated wikis. http://schools.wikia.com/wiki/Technology_Thursdays http://schools.wikia.com/wiki/Civil_Rights_Class http://schools.wikia.com/wiki/Physics The use of wikis as a note taking tool would allow students to employ nearly all of the components listed in the research findings associated with this instructional strategy. Stephanie, a teacher, has created this site as a place for her presentation. Once she presented, she opened the site up for others, including more teachers to share their ideas. Teachers and students can share and collaborate on the Internet.

Think back to May 25, 2008     What were your students doing? How engaged were they? Here is our 8th grade project. It was a hit. http://gr8litourspace.ning.com/    Student comments: ( made with tinyurl.com) http://tinyurl.com/6d3az4 would this level of excitement have been generated with a pencil and paper project? would you see your students working on this project during free time in other classes, afterschool, evenings and weekends. when was the last time you got a message like this from one of your students about an assignment?
