My Social Studies Notebook. Your key to success in 7th grade World History this year.

Have you ever heard yourself say? What did we do in Social Studies yesterday? I know we have a Social Studies test coming up, but I’m not sure what to study. I’m sure my work is in my locker, book bag, my room ……….(but you really don’t have a clue because you’ve misplaced it). I must have left my Social Studies work somewhere else.

Keep yourself together with your interactive Social Studies Notebook!

What is an Interactive Notebook? A place where much of your work in Social Studies will be kept Your own personalized textbook/study guide.

What’s on the individual pages of your notebook: Many pages are for LEARNING! These pages will have essential information you will need to take topics to a higher and deeper level.

Examples of “LEARNING” PAGES/ assignments: Notes Vocabulary Articles Summaries

EXAMPLE

Other notebook pages will be for “Reflection.” The chance for you to “show what you know”. A chance to work with what you have learned, often on “learning pages” or in other class activities.

Examples of “Reflection” type assignments: Create a museum exhibit Draw sensory figures from a particular era Create an advertisement Create a comic strip that tells a story Create a post card Create a visual timeline

Examples of “Reflection” type Assignments:

Now lets set up your notebooks Write your name on the front cover of your notebook. Use a sharpie or permanent marker if possible. Write 7th grade Social Studies- Mr. Zellonis OR Mrs. Lecointe under your name. Number your pages from 1-25 now. Use the top of the page for the page numbers. You can number the rest of the pages on your own later. On page 1 write the title “All about Me.” at the top of the page. Leave the rest of the page blank for now.

Write “Table of Contents” on the top of page 2. Put page numbers in order from the top to the bottom of the page near the right margin. First table of contents title is “All about Me” and is on the same line as the number 1 on the right hand side. On the line with number(or page) 2 write “Table of Contents.” Do not write anything next to the numbers up to page 8. These pages are for the titles of pages that you will add to the Table of Contents throughout the year.

NOW COUNT BACK from the end of your notebook 40 pages(if it is a 200 page notebook) and 20 pages if it is 100 page notebook. Title thE Page you stop at “my warm up journal” you will respond to our daily Class warm ups in this part of your notebook. You will do this as soon as you enter class. The warmup will Usually be POSTED on the smartboard.

Now lets go back to page 1 “All about Me.” I’d like to learn about you and your interests. Your 1st assignment: Draw six colorful pictures that represent you as a person. Be creative and colorful. This is your personalized page. This is all about you! Have fun and quietly collaborate if you would like about ideas with your classmates! Start your drawing now. When finished, hopefully we’ll have some time to share some of your drawings.
