Nail Gun Safety

Nail Gun Safety Coach Ketcham You Responsible for safe condition of tools You Responsible for properly using and maintaining tools

Nail Gun Safety General Safety Precautions Keep tools in good condition Use the right tool for the job Examine each tool for damage prior to use Operate according to manufacturers instructions Use Personal Protective Equipment

Nail Gun Safety PPE must be used when hazards exist The worker on the left took a chance, the worker on the right used his PPE

Nail Gun Safety Do not let workers defeat the safety switch.. The worker drops the gun onto the target And skip along the work area… On impact, the gun fires, recoil lifts the gun And he’s on to the next target

Nail Gun Safety Pneumatic tools Compressed air usually runs between 80 and 140 pounds per square inch (psi) Eye protection is required Noise protection may be required

Nail Gun Safety Pneumatic tools Screens may be set up to protect nearby workers from flying fragments around chippers, riveting guns, staplers or air drills Don’t point an “unloaded” air gun at anyone!

Nail Gun Safety If you're not careful the nail will come out where you don't want it.

Nail Gun Safety Angle the gun toward the unseen side.

Nail Gun Safety Be careful. If you nail too close to the end of the trim, it'll split.

Nail Gun Safety If the nail is too large it can come out where you don't want it.

Nail Gun Safety Brad nailers are better for work that's close to edges

Nail Gun Safety Nails that don't set must be driven in or removed. Use side- cutting pliers to pull protruding nails. Or use a nailset and hammer to drive them in.

Nail Gun Safety Increase the air pressure on your compressor, or use a smaller nail if the nails aren't being driven in completely.

Nail Gun Safety

Nail Gun Safety Never look into the barrel to see why it didn’t fire!

Nail Gun Safety Know the manufacturers recommendations TOOL MAINTENANCE Know the manufacturers recommendations Frequently inspect tools Document periodic inspections of tools Remove defective tools from service Check adjustments and lubrication Continued

Nail Gun Safety Nail Gun Safety Pneumatic nailers are unbelievably fast and powerful. One careless second is all it takes to lose an eye or put a nail through your finger. Here are safety precautions you should take: Disconnect the air hose from the gun when you're loading nails or clearing a jam, or when you're not using the nail gun. Wear safety glasses and have your helpers and bystanders wear them too. Keep children away from nail guns. Disconnect the gun and put it out of reach when you're not using it. Keep your fingers well away from the nail's path. Use clamps if necessary. Never rest the gun on top of a ladder. Keep your finger off the trigger when you're not firing the gun.

Nail Gun Safety Accidents Make Headlines!

Nail Gun Safety It’s only a matter of time before The worker nails his foot, knee or hand… Let the surgeons put the screws in people, not our roofers!

Nail Gun Safety Don’t let this happen to you!
